About Dementia

Dementia - Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia. It is a disease that causes memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life.

Every 66 seconds, someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s disease. By mid-century, that number will increase to one person every 33 seconds.

Alzheimer’s disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. There is no known treatment or cure for Alzheimer’s.

70% of people with Alzheimer’s disease live at home and 22% of them live alone. Over 9,300 people in Waukesha County have Alzheimer’s disease.
